At a grain class I took at Common Ground, we discussed flax briefly. When growing flax for fibers, the seeds are sown more closely to produce longer stems. When growing flax for seed, the seeds are sown more loosely to create larger flower heads. Here is a great website that shows you how to make linen fibers from flax.
